“If Reiki can be spread throughout the world, it will touch the human heart and the morals of society. It will be helpful for many people, and will heal not only disease but also the Earth as a whole.” – Frank Arjava Petter

Frak was one of Sensei Usui students, and by writing this, in his book Reiki Fire,  he expressed a remarkable expression of hope.
Now, over eighty years after those words were initially written, Reiki students stand at a profound moment of opportunity. Millions of people are currently practicing and spreading Reiki by gently healing themselves, their families, and their communities. Some acknowledged that Reiki healed their hearts, bodies, minds, and souls. Many of them have witnessed miracles, cured what medicine could not. Many Reiki practitioners have committed to this practice and its ideals. By living their lives this way, they certainly want to affect human morality. Can we take the next step and bring healing to Mother Earth as a whole?

It’s an overwhelming task. Can we reverse global warming, and bring balance to this ecological imbalance? To the individual mind, only one environmental issue seems enough to amaze our problem-solving ability.
The Earth needs healing on every level: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. How can we help to stop wars or ease the suffering of those who have survived “ethnic cleansing”? Such questions may tempt us to despair.

However, we have Reiki, and it teaches us that its energy is an infinite source of healing. Hawayo Takata called this source “God Power.” Being attuned to Reiki energy, we know that it flows through us but radiates outward from us. Feeling the power within us, we are encouraged to believe that the healing of the Earth is possible.
In gratitude for this chance to release the outcome for the highest good and to heal, we get our act together, ready to begin.

But where should we start? Charity begins at home. We should also start at home. When we heal ourselves, we bring peace in our own lives first. Many Reiki practitioners who follow the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition know that before spreading the Reiki system, it is essential to start from yourself. Healing begins within, and even our Sensei, Mikao Usui, first used Reiki on himself, then on others.

Every Reiki teacher worldwide will tell you how important it is to perform a self-treatment regularly. Even Reiki classes begin with Reiki I Level, the level where you do self-treatments in order to be well as a practitioner. Only then can you be efficient in treating clients. Reiki self-treatments are also important not only to heal our physical imbalances but also to gently and gradually heal our mental, emotional, and spiritual wounds.

The healing with Reiki is often with such subtlety that people are not even aware of the healing. Only by recalling do we realize that our life has changed. We are now living each day with a sense of greater well-being, a positive attitude, and awareness of freedom.

Reiki self-treatment also teaches us about peace. During the treatments, we focus our attention on the energy flow, our thoughts slow, and our minds become quiet.
By treating ourselves each day, we soon learn to appreciate Reiki’s ability to bring us into our own peaceful center. With this awareness of our inner peace, we can live our lives to the fullest.
